If your cigarette lighter is disabled there is a possibly a reason why. There are many car rental companies that want this functionality to be disabled in order to keep people from smoking inside of the car. Smoking tobacco products in a rental car can leave the vehicle smelly and unpleasant for people who don’t like the smell. Also it is to make sure that ashes don’t stain and smear the floor or seats.

Granted you don’t want to connect the cigarette lighter without the consent of the rental car company. If you really want it connected ask the company to do it for you. If you are going to do it on your own be careful not to get caught. The fix is usually a simple one. Replace the fuse that was taken out and it should do the trick. You should be able to get one from Autozone or Pep Boys for a few bucks. Again, keep in mind that this may be against the terms of service for your rental vehicle so proceed with caution.

If you really want to smoke or use the cigarette lighter try to get a car that has is enabled or ask the car rental company to enable it for you. If they will not honor your request go to another company that does not disable the lighter function.
