The event spans through three weeks and the competition is very intense. Every year this event starts with Downtown Rodeo Parade- the most popular single day event in Houston. The Parade was started from 1938 and now has become a big meeting place of performers, entertainers, riders and spectators. The event also hosts a number of musical concerts at night.

Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo is not just a riding competition, it’s pretty much more than that. Another equally famous event, World’s Championship Bar-B-Que Contest is also organized annually during the program where more than 400 top grill masters of the world showcase their culinary skills and compete in three categories: brisket, chicken and pork spare ribs.
